Guard Your Heart

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. (Proverbs 4:23a)

Ah, the “heart“… that is where our problems lie, is it not?

The heart here represents our ethical center, our intellectual center: What we think, what is going on with our will, our perceptions of ourselves and our knowledge of God.

The condition of your heart is critical because what goes on there determines the course of our life.

So let us… guard what is happening in our HEART with all diligence.

Picture your physical heart pumping blood through the arteries to the extremities of the body. The health of the heart determines the health of the body.

So it is with our spiritual heart. What goes on there affects all the extremities of our life.

Want to keep our heart’s pure? Then let us check our ACTIONS in three areas:

1. Our speech:

Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee. (Proverbs 4:24)

QUESTION: Is our speech truthful? Straightforward?… Or misleading?

2. Our Eyes:

Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee. (Proverbs 4:25)

QUESTION: Are we looking only at things that enhance our mind and our morals?

… Or do we have wandering eyes?

3. Our path:

Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil. (Proverbs 4:26,27)

QUESTION: Are we only going to places that keep our heart pure… Or are we drifting into questionable areas?
