LESS OR MORE ??
When Less Is More
There is an automobile ad that depicts a family holding hands, blissfully skipping through the park toward their newly acquired $75,000 car. Fostering family values of peace and solidarity, the advertisement infers that by obtaining the car, everything in the family is now at a near perfect state.
Yet, we live in a society where people are measured by their possesions. So often individuals rip apart their lives just to get that very fine automobile and an appropriatly fine house to match, just so they will be accepted by those in their community. It has been proven true, that individuals with hardly anything, are not as accepted as someone with much material possesions and monies.
But the Lord doesn’t measure our acceptance by the amount of worldly goods we have. Even those who cant afford this worlds goods, He offers to them Salvation Free of charge.
And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
Rev 22:17
The Scriptures challenge material acquisition, when it is at the expense of peace and truth:
Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.
Prov 15:16
Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with strife. Prov 17:1
Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right. Prov 16:8
Proverbs 23:4, puts the issue into the right perspective in cautioning us:
Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom. Prov 23:4
We should have enough wisdom and common sense when we just buy something just to be buying something, to show some restraint in doing so.
God assures us of His provision — and more, if we will but make the pursuit of Him our supreme goal:
Ye shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess. Deut 5:33
