Thanks for the Indescribable Gift

The context of Paul’s writing in 2 Corinthians 9 concerns an offering being taken to help the less fortunate.  As we should discover, there is a lot to be thankful for whenever we give to others.  Paul is still discussing these gifts when he mentions how we share the grace that God has given us.

This brings up the matter of why we give howeverMany people give because they have a sense of guilt or because they feel that it is ok to have vast amounts of wealth so long as they give a portion of it away.  But this isn’t the motivation to give for a Christian

When we give, we should give because we truly want to help others out.  We give not just out of our excess but as an actual sacrifice - giving until it hurts at times.  This is foolish to the rest of the world.

When we give though, it is a reflection of the gift that God gave us.  He gave us salvation - grace through the blood of Jesus Christ.  We can’t repay God or thank Him enough and we shouldn’t try.  Instead when we give, it should simply be a matter of the joy that overflows our hearts in thanks for our salvation.

God’s gift of grace to us is truly indescribableWe can’t repay it but it doesn’t matter.  How we react to it in thanks is the difference.
