Thanksgiving, Not Foolish Talk

The argument can be made that obscene language doesn’t do any harm when they are idle words and they are not aimed at tearing down another person.  There are also varying degrees of obscenity according to what is allowed on our airwaves and what is still banned under the guise of decency.  Some words would appear to be worse to use than others.

But this isn’t the point in the eyes of God.  Regardless whether foolish words do any actual harm, they are a waste of breath.  We should concentrate on what we are thankful for, not what upsets us and causes us to say foolish things.

We were meant to praise the Lord and every time we say something that isn’t constructive, we waste an opportunity to do so.  Once words come out of our mouth, we can never get them back inside.

Words can do a lot of damage even when we don’t intend for them to do so.  Thanks can have the opposite effect however.  We never know the unintended impact that thanks may have on a person.  Like our mothers always said, “if you don’t have any thing nice to say, don’t say anything at all.”  Or better yet, offer a word of thanksgiving because you can never go wrong with this.

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD,my strength, and my redeemer. Psalms 19:14

It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High: Psalms 92:1
