THE GROANINGS OF JESUS

When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubledJohn 11:33

This passage of scripture reveals the very heart and feelings of Jesus as He faces the heartbreak and suffering caused by the evil and cruelty in this world.

(1)  THE WORD GROAN HERE MEANS PROFOUND EMOTION

When we see this scripture we can clearly see that Jesus was angered and moved to deep grief by all of the misery resulting from sin, Satan, and death. His soul is filled not with cold calculated unconcern, but with rage towards evil. This is especially so as He fights for the salvation of the human race. Jesus wept.  John 11:35   And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought;  Saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves  Luke 19:45-46

(2)  AS CHRISTIANS WE TOO SHOULD GROAN AT EVIL

We as believers (if God is working in our lives) should begin to notice how much misery, sorrow, and suffering sin has caused in the world. Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: Romans 5:12  As we begin to take notice of this a compassion for the suffering and a hatred for sin should arise within our hearts. Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellowsHeb 1:9
