THE STRAIT GATE
Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Matt 7:14
Jesus taught that we are not to expect the majority to follow Him on the road that leads to life.
(1) FEW WILL FOLLOW
There are comparatively few who will enter the humble gate of true repentance. There will be very few who will deny themselves to follow Jesus. There will be very few who will sincerely endeavor to obey His commandments, and earnestly seek His kingdom. Few will there be who seek after His righteousness, and perservere until the end in true faith, devotion, love. And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. Matt 10:22
(2) GREAT BLESSINGS FOR TRUE DISCIPLES
Jesus, in His sermon on the mount describes great blessings that accompany discipleship in His kingdom. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. Matt 5:12 However Jesus also points out that His true followers will not escape persecutions. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Matt 5:10-11
(3) NO EASY SALVATION
There are some evangelist’s and preacher’s who are teaching and preaching the untrue doctrine of “getting saved” is the easiest thing in the world. However Jesus taught contrarily to this. Jesus taught that following Him involves heavy obligations concerning righteousness, acceptance of persecution, love for your enemies, and self denial. And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. Mark 13:13
