WISDOM OF THIS WORLD
Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this world? Hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 1 Cor 1:20
The wisdom of this world is a wisdom that excludes God, emphasizes human self sufficiency, makes Man the highests authority, and refuses to recognize God’s revelation in Jesus Christ.
(1) WORLD’S WISDOM IS FOOLISH
This wisdom of the world, God calls foolishness For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain. 1 Cor 3:19-20 For through the world’s wisdom, humans have failed to find the truth or come to know their creator. For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. 1 Cor 1:21
(2) A GODLY CONTEMPT
As believers we must develop a Godly contempt for both human wisdom, and a secular world view. Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. Col 2:8 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. 2 Thess 2:10-12 The Gospel and the message of the cross must never be accomodated to philosophy, science, or other so-called wisdom of man. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 1 Cor 2:4 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. Gal 6:14
