Hope Of The Harvest Outreach

Mexico is a beautiful country of beaches, mountains, and desert. It’s a wonderful place to vacation and a wonderful place to live. The Mexican people are gracious, helpful, loving, kind and happy even though the majority of them are poor…not just poor; profoundly poor. You can see in this series of pictures some of the poorest and the houses in which they live, when they have houses at all. Many live in cardboard shacks and even those with houses seldom have electricity, running water or gas for heating or cooking. They simply can’t afford these ‘luxuries’ that so many of us take for granted in our daily lives.
Those who are able to work generally work in the fields for minimum wage which is approximately 53 pesos per DAY (at the current exchange rate that translates to $3.93 dollars PER DAY!)
For the past two Christmases, since I became the Pastor at New Covenant of Grace Christian Fellowship in Punta Banda, B C, Mexico, I have been involved in providing “Christmas boxes” to the poorest of the poor. Our church family donates money throughout the year to support this project, which, sadly costs more and more to administer each year. In early December, we buy the food needed to fill 150 boxes and the entire congregation comes together to pack the boxes. Once they’re packed, they are delivered to those in greatest need. I have been privileged to deliver the boxes the past 2 years and have seen, first hand, the poverty in which these people live.
This year my goal is to be able to distribute at least 200 boxes, but 200 does not even touch the surface or meet the needs. Additionally, the church now has a food program to reach out and help families throughout the year and not just at Christmas time.
We are a small congregation – about 30-40 – mostly retired Americans but also some Mexicans. Our people are generous, but it is clear we need help from outside our own church to make this food program successful and also to increase the number of Christmas boxes we are able to distribute.
Will you help? Every little bit will help to feed more people and there are so many…so many.
If you would like further information about our programs, please go to the “Contact Us” page and send an e mail. I will personally be happy to answer any questions about our church or any of our programs.
May God richly bless you,
Pastor Woody
